Venice - Ponte de Sospire

The bridge of Sighs or in Italian Ponte de Sospire. 

It links the Doges Palace ( Il Palazzo di Doge ) with the New Prisons ( Il Prigioni Nuovo )

For many prisoners it was from this bridge that they had their last view of Venice - hence the name.

Villa Carlotta

On the shore of Lake Como lies the Villa Carlotta with beautiful gardens and a fine view of the lake.

The villa was built in the late 17th century by the Milanese marquis Giorgio Clerici.

Today it attracts many many visitors.

This cafe/restaurant could be the most expensive I've ever been to - nothing special but extras and extras and extras on the bill.

Pisa and Florence are certainly very expensive places to eat out in - so be warned .....

When you stay in a hotel bedroom you often wonder who has been there before you ..

Well in this case monks and nuns - they have inhabited the cells ( now guest bedrooms ) for the past several hundred years.

The long corridors with the cells - many adorned with medieval motifs above the doors.

Comfortable rooms now - I would imagine that the monks and nuns would have found them cold in a wet Italian winter ...

Yes it may look like a nunnery or a monastery but now it's a hotel !!

A former convert for Dominican nuns and at one time made over to Franciscans this is a very very old building . It's also been quarantine hospital but in 2000 the work was started to convert it into a hotel.

Very convenient for the city centre - it's a hotel I can recommend ..
